This is a "semi-private" list in that subscription requests
are moderated while individual messages are not. Accordingly,
messages sent by non-subscribers will be rejected
and requests to subscribe will be screened. This is done
in the interest of reducing, if not outright eliminating
spam. This approach is also designed to prevent content
aggregators from accessing subscriber posts and email
addresses without their permission.
By default, the reply-to address in
messages sent to the list is that of the sender and not
the list address itself. This is designed to prevent
autoresponders (such as vacation messages) from bombarding
the list in an endless loop, but also to encourage care
in the content and amount in messages sent to the
list. Message subjects from the list are prefixed with
"[es]" for easy identification.
In order to reduce the likelihood of viruses propagating
through this list and to generally increase the quality of
experience using this resource, all attachments, images,
and html are automatically stripped from list posts, and
messages larger than 300k are rejected. List members are
encouraged to upload images to the accompanying website
(a planned feature) or personal website while providing a link to the resource.
This prevents list members from being forced to download
resources when they retrieve their mail. That being said, these provisions
are in place as a preliminary foundation, subject to democratic
debate among the list members.
