Prologue

.
I loved my father, who loved cactuses, and sweet desert flowers, and canyons, and fierce lightning storms, and anyway he could save money;
.
I enjoy physical labor in the company of nature, and the challenge of difficult tasks;
.
I worship simplicity;
.
I find the ecosystem more reliable than the social system;
.
I feel the need to express myself in some monumental and lasting way;
.
I love the color of the Taos mesa; the blue-green brush and orange earth that goes almost pink behind the sage;
.
so I decided to build an earthship.
